Hi there every one Brenna and I are back from our 2 week holiday/Dog sitting! in Calgary, The home of the 1988 Olympic, we all should remember remember the ski jumper Eddie the Eagle! That was the only time he got to compete at that level..
Our holiday started with a bus ride thanks to Greyhound to Kelowna in southern central BC. they call it the Hawaii of Canada. Its on the Okanagan Lake which is constantly filled with power boats and any other type of boat you can think of and when it gets windy the Kite surfers come out to play. I got to met Brenna Grandmother from her Dad's side and we stayed with her while we were there. We relaxed a lot enjoyed hanging by the water and even got out it a few times thanks to a paddle board and a rented Sea Soo (that was soo much fun) After a relaxing 4 days we then flew to Calgary.
Calgary was going to be home for the next week and a half while Brenna's Uncle Aunty and 9 week old cousin went on a house boat. Firstly Alberta is a lot flatter than BC not quite as many Mountains in site, only if you look to the west you can see the Rocky Mountains. Since I have been in BC I have only seen 1 thunder and Lightening storm, but in Alberta we had 4 in the time we were there!! I didn't realize how hypnotizing they are!
We kept ourselves entertained everyday, We went down town only a 10 minute train ride away and experienced the rush they call the Calgary Stampede!! Where over 1 million people attend over the 7 days! We went on the last saturday and we were joined by 178000 other people, I didn't realize I was that popular!! LOL What is the Stampede?? Its like the Melbourne show on steroids a little with the main attraction being the rodeo, You get to see proper cowboys doing what they do best! It was a blast and the day flew by! And we didn't see everything that it had to offer either! It was a tiring day walking and people watching but well worth it.
The next day we headed out to see Calgary Park, where the Bob-sleigh, Luge, Ski Jumping and other events took place, This is only 15 minutes west of the down town area.
The area even though it was covered in grass and not snow still look impressive, We need to give the ski jumper soo much credit they must be nuts!! Throwing themselves off a jump and flying 115 metres through the air!! The jump is a long way up thats for sure,
The luge track was another impressive feature, they too are crazy tearing down the track up to 120 km/h it's going to hurt if you bail! In winter they have Bob sleigh rides on the track which would be a big rush. They still use the track each year averaging 18000 runs both for fun and competition.
After the day checking out these blood bumping sports we get all competitive so we found a go cart track and ripped it up. The track had two tunnels and 2 overpasses which you got air born a little if you tried! Fun with a capital "F"
With the adrenalin still flowing the next day we hit Calaway Park, western Canada's largest fun park. It was a day of getting dizzy, getting bumped, winning prizes and having heaps of laughs, that what the time away was all about! With our time away quickly coming to an end we headed out to Banff, the stunning National Park that is world renowned! And now I can see why!! It is so beautiful, all the shops complement the setting but its the pristine Mountains and scenery everyone comes to see! Every shop has help wanted signs, may have to have a Mountain change,
Banff is the most stunning place I have ever seen. We fell in love with the place as soon as we arrived but we didn't have enough time to explore it enough but it just give us another reason to go back to wonderland!
